Robotic Machining Cell
Make largerThis Robotic machining cell was designed, manufactured and installed by Montip. It operates three shifts seven days per week. Our customer produces components for the automotive industry. Part of the production cycle necessitated an operator transferring components between three different machines. Montip’s brief was to produce an automated system to transfer the components thus allowing the operator to be re deployed to a more a valuable function. For this application Montip used a Kuka KR 16 six axis robot. The robot was fitted with a high precision five head gripper system. This gripper was designed and produced in-house by Montip’s technical experts.
Make largerFollowing the successful completion of the project three cells have been automated and can be operated by one operator. This was achieved by Montip manufacturing two special purpose machines for each cell. One machine feeds the raw components into the cell and removes the finished components from the cell. The second special purpose machine is used for cleaning the component after production.
Make largerThe components are transferred around the production cell with the Kuka Robot fitted with the five head gripper system. The control system specified by our customer was a GE Fanuc PLC. At Montip we fitted the PLC with a Devisenet Master and Slave module, through these we communicated with the robot and all the I/O. The operator interface is a Pro Face touch screen with all I/O and alarms being displayed for easy fault finding and maintenance.
